The easiest and most error free way to set up your pikenet connection is to use the internet connection wizard, which is a part of windows 95 or 98. This will work even if you are switching from another internet service provider.
Start this wizard by clicking the start button, programs, accessories, internet tools, and the internet connection wizard. This is sometimes found in an Internet Explorer folder, so if you can't find it at first, don't panic. Look around in the accessories menu. If you still can't find it, please call tech support for instructions.
You will see a box appear that is titled "Welcome to the Internet Connection Wizard." Please select the "I want to set up my Internet connection manually" option, then click next.
Select the I connect through a phone line and a modem option, then click next.
Enter the following phone number, 217-285-9792, make sure that the "Dial using area code and country code" box is NOT checked. Click next.
Enter your username and password exactly like we gave them to you, using all LOWER CASE letters, and no spaces. Click next.
Under Connection name, enter Pikenet. Click next.
Under "Do you want to set up an internet mail account now, select yes, then click next. If needed, select create an new internet mail account. Click next.
Under display name, enter what you would like your name to appear as, such as John Doe, or John and Mary Doe. Click Next.
In the email address box, enter the email address we gave you, exactly. Click next. In the "my incoming mail server is a" box, make it say pop3. Under incoming mail server enter pop3.pikenet.net. Under outgoing mail server enter smtp.pikenet.net. Click next.
Under account name, enter your username as we gave it to you. Under password, enter your password. You MUST use all lowercase letters. Click the remember password box, if you can. Click next.
Click finish. You are all set!
